Sagrado Art Gallery presents the exhibition “Earth and Surface: Evolution and Transcendence”

The multimedia artist, cultural manager and educator Angélica Rivera, whose career has led her to exhibit her works internationally, presents her new work, “Earth and surface: Evolution and transcendence”, in the Art Gallery of the University of the Sacred Hearta space that celebrates its twenty-seventh anniversary.

The exhibition, which will open next Friday, February 11, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, is a multidisciplinary proposal that, according to the artist, she has been working on since 2018. An exhibition made up of twenty medium and large format works that include drawings, relief engravings, mixed media, paintings and ceramics, in which carbon, graphite and ink media persist.

According to Rivera, through his pieces, he seeks “create an analogy between the human event of evolution and transcendence defined as the act of moving from one realm to another, crossing boundaries”. It also highlights that the effect of transcending is compared to the act of germination of a plant, which overcomes that evolutionary and transcendental barrier between the earth and the surface”.

“This exhibition highlights the need to preserve the integrity of a culture like ours through agriculture, looking at plants as a source that nourishes and heals. Everything comes from the land, it comes from a strong relationship that has existed since our ancestors, but has been displaced in recent times by other interests associated with modernity and the so-called ‘progress’. It is urgent to resume the conversation of the earth and its life cycles, processes, wisdom, connection, evolution and energy”, explains Rivera in a press release.

In the communication, the cultural manager and coordinator of the Sagrado Art Gallery, Norma Vila, comments that the themes and approaches that the artist presents and dominates are in harmony with the historical moment that we live as humanity.

“In turn, similar to the act of germination and evolution of a plant, here at Sagrado we are heading to celebrate the growth of the Gallery upon reaching its twenty-seventh anniversary as an academic gallery that serves as a pillar of encounter, bond and cultural integration for our communities”, adds Vila, after highlighting that this growth and celebration are also accompanied by the official launch of the new Sagrado School of Arts, Design and Creative Industries, led by Dr. Javier Hernández Acosta.

“We take the opportunity to highlight how the exhibition connects with our academic project. At Sagrado we have determinedly assumed the objectives of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations Organization throughout our curriculum; An example of this is the creation of the Baccalaureate in Sustainable Development”, adds the culture manager, pointing out that the artists that they incorporate into the program are a living example of the professional profile that we aspire for our student community. “Rivera has a proven track record of more than twenty years as a professional artist, educator, and project manager on and off the island.”
